Do I need to be located near you?
No, we work with people all over the country, by phone and through online webinars etc, so geography is not a concern.  The cool woman sewing in her dining room in Austin is just as likely to be a client as someone down the street from us in Chicago.


Do you take credit cards and do you have a payment plan?
Yes. We accept all major credit cards.  We also offer payment plans for many of our products, workshops and programs.  The truth is, if we stop you from making some of the common business mistakes that cost you money – you will have made your investment back.  Frankly, you’ll learn a ton and will be way ahead of the curve.


This sounds like everything I’m looking for but I am not sure I’m ready to commit.  Can I get a sample of your work to see if it is right for me?
Yes, Jane is always giving tips and ideas to help designers with their businesses in her e-zine.  She shares the love at no charge – it is free (click here).  It really will give you good information that you can start using right away.

What do you offer?
Jane Hamill Consulting helps you take your creative ideas and make money with them.  We concentrate on the business side of your line with products and services geared specifically to the fashion industry – especially small companies.  We offer seminars, online training, webinars, tele-classes, workshops, and  one-on-one consulting (some are ready now, some are coming soon…stay with us).  We also provide a direction for clients… what to focus on first, second, and so on.  There are a lot of moving parts when you design a line and we give you a targeted framework for your business.


Who are your clients?
Anyone who has a creative idea and wants to turn it into a viable business – or see if there is potential to do so.  Our clients are typically great at designing clothes, jewelry, handbags, accessories, whatever it may be – but tend to struggle with how to manage the business and financial side of things.  We often hear “I don’t like to think about that.”  But 20 years in the industry has shown us that you MUST think about it or your business will certainly fail.  Most schools do not teach Fashion Entrepreneurship, but we do.  Our services are not for everyone… we look for clients who are really ready to go, who are prepared to take honest, constructive feedback, and shorten the learning curve on how to start and run a fashion business.

Do you work with start-ups?
Absolutely, we do.  We understand how overwhelming it can be when you think you have something good in your head but have so many questions.  What is the first step?  How do I gat samples made?  What business licenses do I need?  Do I need a corporation or an LLC?  Where do I look for fabrics and trims?  How much money will I need?  We have been there before (when you feel like your head is spinning off your body, on yeah) and can give you a step-by-step, detailed plan to get your business started.  1st step, think hard about your goals for your business,  2nd step, set up the legal entity, 3rd step, how to find sources, etc. etc.  We teach what you need to know in a very specific order so you can do one thing, check it off, and move on to the next task. 


What if I already have a business but cannot seem to make any money?
We are perfect for you.  We will do a “Reality Check” on your business and see what the issues are.  We will look into your costs, your pricing, check your P & L line by line, how you keep your books, which items in your line are most cost-effective to produce and how to increase them, your margins, your marketing message, your customer, your competition, shifting the way you work, etc.  We will help you get over the hump, get focused, and find the hidden opportunities for making money – they’re always there when you know where to look.
